What is the rainSensor used for?
The rainSensor is a Wi-Fi rain sensor designed to detect when rainfall begins and ends. The device allows you to determine when it started raining and when it stopped, which also enables you to calculate the duration of the rain.
In the wBox app, the sensor’s status changes to ‘raining’ or ‘not raining’, and thanks to remote access, you can check the current weather conditions from anywhere in the world. The RainSensor can send a wireless command to up to 30 other BleBox devices upon detecting rainfall; when combined with the shutterBox controller, this automatically closes roof windows, and when used with the switchBoxDC, it switches off the solenoid valves to prevent the garden from being watered whilst it is raining.
How is the rainSensor controller powered?
The rainSensor controller is powered by a DC voltage in the range of 12–24 V DC. The power supply is connected via the wires included in the one-metre LiYY 3×0.25mm² cable; the power supply is connected to the red/brown wire, and the earth to the black/white wire.
What is the additional wire in the rainSensor cable used for?
The extra wire in the rainSensor cable (yellow/green) is an open-drain signalling output, which allows the sensor to be connected to other building automation systems that do not have Wi-Fi connectivity.
What is the operating temperature range of the rainSensor?
The rainSensor controller can operate within a temperature range of -20°C to +50°C. This is the operating temperature range of the entire controller, which ensures reliable operation of the device both in extreme cold and during the summer heat.
How to set the correct installation angle for the RainSensor
The RainSensor should be installed with a slight downward tilt of approximately 5–10 degrees to ensure that water runs off the sensor’s surface naturally. This positioning allows water to drain quickly by gravity from the measuring surface once the rainfall has stopped.
Can I view rainfall history using RainSensor?
Yes, the controllers offer full functionality for data history and interactive graphs for rainfall. To use this feature, the controller must be connected to a Wi-Fi network. Measurement data is stored on the servers for one year, and for archiving purposes, it can be exported to .csv and .xlsx formats.

The data recording interval varies depending on the time period: for data from the last week, the interval is 5 minutes; for data from the last month, it is one hour; and after one month, data is recorded at one-day intervals.
