What is the pixelBox controller used for?
The pixelBox is used to control addressable LED strips and enables the creation of unique lighting effects.
How do I power the pixelBox?
The controller must be powered by a voltage compatible with that of the connected LED strip – these are usually 5V, 12V or 24V DC strips. Please note that the pixelBox v1 controller can only operate within the 5–12 V DC voltage range, whilst the currently produced pixelBox v2 controller supports the full 5–24 V DC voltage range.
Does the pixelBox controller support lighting effects?
Yes, it has 10 user-editable lighting effects. You can create your own lighting arrangement with preset colours, fade times and effect durations. Unlike the wlightBox controller, the pixelBox controller is capable of displaying several colours simultaneously on a single LED strip.
Is it possible to control individual LEDs on a digital LED strip?
The pixelBox controller is capable of displaying several colours simultaneously on a single LED strip; however, it is not possible to control individual LEDs.
How many LEDs does the pixelBox support? What is the maximum strip length?
The pixelBox supports up to 360 addressable digital LEDs. The strip length depends on the number of LEDs (pixels) per metre. It is worth noting that some strips, particularly 12V ones, have 3 physical RGB LEDs controlled by a single chip, so one ‘pixel’ consists of 3 LEDs.
Supported standards:
pixelBox v1: ARGB (RGB), 12V (WS2811 / WS2815)
pixelBox v2: ARGB (RGB), 5V (WS2812B, WS2813, SK6812), 12V (WS2811, WS2815, LC8808), 24V (UCS2903, FL1903B)
Does pixelBox support RGBW LED strips?
The controller only supports RGB strips, in which white is produced by mixing the three primary colours. Strips with a separate white (W) channel are not supported.
