# Wi-Fi signal interference

Symptoms:

- Delayed response of the controllers to commands.
- Occasional loss of connection to the Wi-Fi network.
- Unstable connection despite a good signal strength.

Possible causes:

- Too many Wi-Fi devices operating on the same channel.
- Overlapping networks of neighbours using the same 2.4 GHz channels.
- Excessive bandwidth usage by other devices (IP cameras, CCTV systems, IoT devices).
- Sub-optimal channel configuration on access points.
- Overload of an access point serving a large number of clients.

Suggested solutions:

1. Carry out an analysis of Wi-Fi channel utilisation.
2. Manually select the channel with the lowest level of interference (recommended channels: 1, 6 or 11).
3. Limit the channel width to 20 MHz in the 2.4 GHz band.
4. Spread the devices across several access points if the installation is extensive.
5. For large installations, consider using a professional Wi-Fi system to manage customer traffic.
6. Update the software on your router or access points.

Note for the installer:
In large installations, the problem is often not signal strength, but high levels of interference and the sharing of transmission time amongst multiple devices. Even with very good coverage, an excessive number of clients on a single channel can cause delays and intermittent communication problems.
